Scanning receipts with AI
How to use AI Scan to extract amount, date, merchant, and category from any Malaysian receipt.
AI Scan lifts the amount, date, merchant, and category off any receipt. It works on Malaysian paper receipts (RM amounts, bilingual Bahasa / English), water and electricity bills, e-invoices, and most clinic / pharmacy receipts.
Open the AI Scan tab
On the New Expense screen, tap AI Scan instead of Manual entry. Tap the upload area and either take a photo or pick from your gallery.
Wait for the scan (~5 seconds)
CareSplit uploads the image and runs it through our AI engine. The form prefills automatically with the extracted fields.
Review every field before saving
AI is fast but not infallible — always glance over the amount, date, and category. Edit any field that looks wrong, then choose how to split and save.
**What if the AI fails?** When the receipt is unreadable, CareSplit shows "Couldn't read this receipt clearly — please enter the details manually." The receipt is still attached to the eventual expense — just type the fields in yourself.
